Working as part of an international camera team for Crea TV, Laurie K. Gilbert shot cultural material and contestant arrival coverage in Vietnam for the third series of the American reality television programme, The Amazing Race.
He was responsible for lighting and shooting action at "Pit Stops" in Saigon and the historic China Beach.
Much of the race action sequences in Vietnam were shot in tropical monsoon rain conditions which added to the atmosphere but increased the challenges for the camera teams.
Shooting locations in Vietnam included Saigon, Hanoi, China Beach and the ancient royal city of Hue
Producer Othello Khahn and his Vietnamese production company Crea TV provided the American producers with full camera crew and production support throughout the duration of the week long Vietnam leg of the race and in the final programme, the Vietnam segments of the race starred over almost two full one-hour programmes.
In 2003 it was announced that "Vietnam", programme 11, series 3, of The Amazing Race won the inaugural EMMY AWARD for Outstanding Reality Television.
