For the second time in twenty years, Laurie K. Gilbert was invited by an Olympic Host Broadcaster to bring his specialist offshore cinematography skills to a sailing venue and this time provide helicopter aerial camera support for the global television coverage of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Sailing Regatta.

On the 11th June 1906, three classic sailboats crossed the startline at the San Pedro Lighthouse as the canon fired to initiate a 2225 nautical mile Trans Pacific Yacht Race from California to Honolulu, Hawaii. The first winner was skipper H.H. Sinclair in his 86ft schooner Lurline and exactly 100 years later, the TRANSPAC as it is now known celebrated its Centennial, making it one of the oldest sporting events in the modern world.

In the fourteen year period between 1986 and 2000, the biennial Kenwood Cup conducted by the Royal Hawaiian Ocean Racing Club became one of the most prestigious and hotly contested sailing regattas held anywhere in the world. Both professional and amateur sailors alike appreciated the extreme challenges of racing the big winds and dramatic seas of the Pacific Islands and then enjoyed the unique "Aloha" hospitality that reflects the historic culture of Hawaii.

Key West is reputed to be one of the world's premier sailing regatts which is sailed in the windy, sunny conditions off the southern tip of Florida and it is one of the most photogenic events of its kind on the planet. On average 300 sailboats and almost 3000 sailors travel to the tropical paradise to compete in the regions' aquamarine waters.
