Hakuryu 10 is owned and operated by Japan Drilling co Ltd and is the ninth in a series of 19 Baker Marine Pacific Class jack up rigs on order by Sembcorp Marine's subsidiary PPL Shipyard in Singapore. It is the first Japanese rig to be built outside Japan and is reputed to be one of the most advanced technically in the global market.

The rig, which is based on a PPL propriety design, has the ability to drill high temperature and high pressure wells to 30,000 whilst the rig itself operates in a maximun of 375 feet of water on its extendable legs.

The Hakuryu 10 was photographed in the Straits of Malacca on board the OHT Heavylift Eagle as it departed from Singapore on its way to Tunisia where it will commence its first operation under charter with Eni Tunisia B.V
