Maersk Developer, a new DSS21 propriety designed semisubmersible, is the most technically advanced deepwater drilling rig to be designed and built in Singapore to date.
It is the first of three similar rigs that have been commissioned by Maersk to be built in the city state by Keppel FELS Ltd and the DSS21 design has been jointly developed by the company’s Deepwater Technology Group, Marine Structure Consultants of the Netherlands and Maersk Contractors.
The rig features a dynamic positioning system with the ability to attach to a prelaid mooring system and is capable of operating in a water depth of 3000 metres and drilling down to 10,000 metres.
The aerial imagery was taken at magic hour on the inaugural voyage of the Maersk Developer when the rig was progressing slowly up the Straits of Malacca between Indonesia and Malaysia.
